This clear #572 BMX number plate was used by local rider John Stancliff during organized BMX competition. Clear number plates became popular among some racers for their distinctive appearance, allowing bike graphics and frame details to remain visible through the plate. However, because transparent plates could make rider numbers harder for officials to read during races, sanctioning bodies such as the National Bicycle League later prohibited their use in competition. Artifacts like this plate illustrate a period of experimentation in BMX equipment before stricter race regulations were adopted.
