Daylight “The Last HLT4” Frame (Damaged) – Harry Leary
This damaged Daylight HLT4 BMX frame represents the final HLT4 frame owned and ridden by BMX pioneer Harry Leary. The HLT designation—short for Harry Leary Turbo—originated from the Diamondback component line associated with Leary during the early years of professional BMX racing.
According to Leary, the frame was accidentally run over by a vehicle while he was preparing for a series of sprint races. Although the details of the story have occasionally been debated within the BMX community, the damaged frame itself remains a distinctive artifact from the later years of Leary’s riding career.
Rather than restoring or discarding the frame, it has been preserved in its damaged condition as a reflection of the unpredictable and often rough reality of BMX racing and event preparation. The artifact was later discussed by Greg Mathias and Kyle A. Huffman during an episode of the Fireside BMX Chat podcast, further documenting its place within the story of Leary’s career.
As one of the final frames associated with Leary’s personal riding history, the HLT4 remains a unique survivor from the closing chapters of a career that helped define the early era of BMX racing.
