Historical context

Radical Rick Self Portrait – Nowear BMX Fundraiser (1 of 45)

This original Radical Rick self-portrait was created by BMX artist Damian Fulton as part of a 2024 fundraiser for the Nowear BMX Compound, a riding facility dedicated to supporting BMX culture and community.

Produced to celebrate 45 years of the Radical Rick character, the project consisted of 45 unique hand-painted portraits created by Fulton. Each piece was individually illustrated, signed, and stamped with the official Certified Radical seal, confirming its authenticity.

Radical Rick first appeared in BMX magazines during the early 1980s and quickly became one of the most recognizable artistic representations of BMX culture. Fulton’s illustrations helped capture the humor, attitude, and energy of the sport during its most influential era.

As part of a limited series created to support the BMX community, this portrait represents both the enduring popularity of Radical Rick and the continued role of BMX art in preserving the culture of the sport.
