Frank Ocean, born Christopher Edwin Breaux in Long Beach, California and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, emerged from the late-2000s Los Angeles music scene as one of the most influential and elusive artists of his generation. Initially gaining recognition as a songwriter for major pop and R&B performers, Ocean developed his own artistic identity through the critically acclaimed 2011 mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra.
