Known as “The Canadian Beast,” Jay Miron is one of the most influential figures in freestyle BMX history. Born in Thunder Bay, Ontario in 1970, Miron rose to prominence during the early 1990s with an aggressive, fearless riding style that helped push freestyle BMX into a new era of technical progression.
A true innovator, Miron became known for helping pioneer and popularize numerous tricks and combinations, including the 540 tailwhip and 720 barspin, while pushing the limits of vert and park riding during a transformative period in BMX history. His video parts and contest performances set new standards for power, creativity, and technical execution.
Beyond competition, Miron played a major role in shaping BMX culture and industry. He rode for leading brands including GT, Hoffman Bikes, and Schwinn, later founding MacNeil Bikes, launching Ten Pack Distribution, and creating the influential Metro Jam contest series.
After stepping away from full-time professional competition in the mid-2000s, Miron transitioned into craftsmanship and furniture design in Vancouver, bringing the same creativity and precision from BMX into his work.
Miron’s legacy endures as one of the defining riders of freestyle BMX’s progression era, helping influence generations of riders around the world.
