[01:11] I found it a long long time ago. I I think it was before even lit its BMX came about when we were early on in the
[01:20] kind of the Harry Ly uh fireside chat groups the on Facebook. But I noticed it
[01:27] and I noticed I’ve noticed the picture before is because I matched the jersey to that picture at one point
[01:36] and Oh yeah. And shortly thereafter, I donated the jersey to uh Carlo Lucia
[01:45] had some medical issues and there were they they were raising some money for him. Justin Dumas of Boss BMX. They uh
[01:55] they were raising some some money did auction for him and that was donated.
[02:01] And the significance behind that is is really the motivating factor is boss BMX
[02:08] but specifically Livermore Boss was responsible for the production of dirt work frames for Harry Liry.

[02:19] Yes. So, the jersey that I had of your brothers, right, a Bob jersey, it did go, it did get sold and it did get uh
[02:27] sold for a good cause as far as I’m concerned, which once again coming around full circle, right? Everything gets a return back to the boss family that made the frames for Harry.

[03:17] works frames. Now now Justin recently reached out to me like an hour and a half ago and I knew
[03:26] he had an NOS Dirt Works frame cuz he told me some VI may be looking to get rid of it. Really?
[03:37] He did. And today was that Sunday. Whoa.
[03:45] So, what what exactly took place?
[03:49] So, he reached out and said, “Hey, I’m I I I told you a while back that I would, you know, I’m interested in selling this
[03:57] to you. I am interested in uh unloading a couple of things.” apparently he’s got a lot of inventory uh as I can imagine
[04:07] and one of those was the frame and he said and he was like basically hey before I put it on the open market are
[04:13] you interested in it and I right now I’m like I don’t I can’t afford it right now but I you know I I can’t afford not to.
[04:21] So we’ll we’ll go for it and I’ll figure the money out now. I’m going to start doing fundraisers at this point. Um, but
[04:29] uh I I I thought about it for like a quarter of a second and I said, “I can’t do cash right now, but if you could take a card and he’s like, “Let’s make it
[04:37] happen.” So, um, so we just made the transaction happen. He should be shipping it soon.

[05:05] bike. He showed me a long time ago, and I didn’t even have to ask for an updated picture. You know, I trust him so much and and I remember it being so clean
[05:12] back in the day. So, yeah, that was that’s that’s that’s really fun to kind of bring on board. So now I noticed that
[05:20] picture yesterday and then Justin reaches out today and I’m like, man, God works in mysterious ways, right?

[05:30] It is. Yeah. So, and this particular bike has never been sold to anybody that it’s just been it’s just inventory.
[05:39] Uh well, he it was I I’m not sure the back story. He it was sold at one point
[05:46] or it was given. I don’t know. But it was never sold in a shop. It was never mounted, you know, nothing was ever
[05:53] mounted onto it. And um they uh it it’s it’s basically it’s bone stock. It’s
[06:01] never been touched. Um so yeah, it’s it’s pretty much pretty much there.

[06:13] Um so I’m trying to get that jersey. Uh, so I gave him a jersey because I wanted that jersey matched with the bike when I
[06:21] made the donation to Carlo. Uh, I’m trying to get the jersey back. He’s not necessarily ready to get rid of it, but he says as soon as he is, it’s mine,
[06:28] right? So, I do know that, but I don’t know if he has anything else dirt works.
[06:33] I’m sure he’s got I know he’s got boss, he’s got quicks. I I can only imagine what he has in inventory and what he’s going to start unloading.

[07:23] It was so he was after Balance. So balance he was 9394 he won the vet pro
[07:29] titles on and he started it at late 94 I believe and it lasted I’m I’m going to guess two years is my understanding I

[12:13] happened. So I’m curious. So I the second it left me, it went through bike flights. It got to you. What happened after that?

[12:28] And of course the person the one person that I would have only ever trusted to put something like that together, my
[12:34] brother was no longer with me. So I had met Rob at the U-Haul uh facility there in Habisu.
[12:44] Okay. And um I went by there and I said, “Look, you guys, I got this bike, Larry Dirt Works, because they’re fans, big fans,
[12:52] and they took the bike from me and all the parts and they put it all together for me.” Oh my gosh. And it turned out so great.
[13:00] It turned out amazing. It It turned out really, really well.
[13:04] That is awesome. And you said the guy’s name is Rob. Rob from U-Haul in Lake Avis. In Lake Au City.

[13:34] And it took, you know, it took a couple weeks because they they were very thorough with it. The one problem that they did have
[13:41] was the the seat stem is was completely frozen. Oh.
[13:46] So there was no way that they could raise it or lower it. Yeah.
[13:50] And so Oh, I knew that. I forgot about that.
[13:53] Yeah. Without cutting into the bike itself. So it is where it’s at. Yeah.
[13:58] Um but I said I’m glad you didn’t cut it cuz I wanted it cut. No. But they put it together and it is left as it was when Chaz had it.
[14:09] I love it. That is such a beautiful bike. And it’s even got those those Greg Hill. I’m blanking on the name of the
[14:16] company at the time, but the the Priarzoi forks on it, which are really cool. If you look on the bottom side of it, you’ll see those peace signs. I’m not sure if you’ve ever noticed that.

[14:29] Yeah. So, there’s little pea signs on the bottom of those forks. or otherwise hollow. That was You can tell that those are the first run for those forks that Greg Hill ran.

[15:07] He painted it with some kind of paint and it turned out beautiful.
[15:11] You know what’s what’s great is we both had the same idea because I put a a whole spray can uh back when before, you
[15:20] know, I was like, “Oh, I’m giving Linda.” Uh I put a whole spray can of clear mat onto the top surface of that
[15:27] seat after cleaning it. So, I cleaned it. I cleaned it uh as best and not destructive as possible and then spray
[15:35] sealed on top of it. So, it’s got an even greater seal now. So, wonderful.
[15:39] Yeah. Well, I’ll tell you, it still is hard as hell. Yeah. Yeah.
[15:43] Is one of the most uncomfortable things to sit on, but it will forever be on that bike because I can’t get it off.

[15:58] Uh but but that’s not the sitting in your house is not the end of the road for that bike. You uh you’ve got great

[16:16] I think I will need knee surgery, but I plan on taking that dirt works to Dirty Fest 4 and doing a lap on that truck.

[16:34] belong to my son that was given to my son by Harry.
[16:38] And Chaz, my son, raced that bike at Harry’s track in uh Ontario, I believe, or uh
[16:47] somewhere Ontario. I think it was Ontario. Yeah, I love it.
[16:51] And um yeah, it was pretty cool, Linda. That’s that’s wonderful. And then Chaz forgot about it and it hung up in
[16:59] my garage for many years. Many, many years. And we were moving and I had that
[17:06] bike and then I had this cute little old mini GT bike which I wish I I had back
[17:13] cuz it was it was vintage. And I gave that back to Harry. Oh yeah.
[17:17] And then I said, “Well, do you do you want your dirt works back?” And honestly, he was not all that thrilled about taking it. He goes, “Yeah, I guess I’ll
[17:25] take it.” And I know it sat out for a long time cuz he just didn’t do anything with it.
[17:30] I believe it sat out in his yard for a while. Yeah.
[17:34] Um there was some rust. I cleaned a good amount of rust off that thing and I I Oh, hold on. Sorry. I’ll let you continue and then let’s come back to rust for a second. Go ahead.

[21:05] dirt on that on the on your dirt works, Harry’s dirt works. Um, when I first got that and I started cleaning, I was
[21:14] looking at this going, “Oh my god, what did I get myself into?” Right, as a cleanup job. And I thought most of the
[21:22] stuff on everything that I saw was all rust. And it looked like there was a hell of a lot of rust.
[21:30] What it mostly turned out to be was just caked on dirt. Real fine, dark caked on dirt.
[21:39] And that’s my son never cleaned his bike and never cleaned them.
[21:46] So that was what I was scared was going to be rust ended up uh turning, you know, ended up being just dirt. And so a
[21:52] lot of that concern uh turned into joy as I was cleaning it. And but I guess what’s funny is I’ll have to show you
[22:00] pictures of the freewheel. Um I clean the living daylights out of that. But oh that’s right. You know what I forgot?
[22:06] Uh, I did a campaign on Facebook for that for that bike and it was the operation dirt. It was operation dirt
[22:14] works. So, if you want to see kind of where I started and kind of some of the build process I went through at the time before I sent it to you. It you could
[22:22] just search for that that open hashtagation. I would love that. Yeah.

[22:35] Oh, but I love the thought that it was all dirt cuz, you know, Harry kept his bike spotless.

[22:51] You know, I remember him get pissed off at it. He used to jump that bike because Chaz used to dig these big jumps in our yard. Oh.
[23:00] And it was that bike that he used to jump all the time. And I remember him coming off of that bike and picking it up and throwing it.
[23:09] He was a lot like his uncle in that respect. Yeah.
[23:13] So, you know, that poor bike. I don’t know if the pedals were bent or the rims were bent, but if they were, I think that’s where that came from.

[23:23] Uh, not the ones that I have. But, you know what’s funny is I posed a question out to the the BMX community at some point about the pedals on that bike, right?
[23:34] and all of the the collectors, the the the collector industry, whatever. Um,
[23:41] I said, “What are the pedals of a champion?” And I put the pedals of Harry’s bike next to the pedals of like
[23:50] my one of my quote unquote really nice bikes. And everybody every single one of them got the answer wrong.

[24:00] Yeah. Because what is what did Jesus I hate to say it like this. What did Jesus chalice look like right when when
[24:09] Indiana Jones went to go pick up the cups to drink from? What did it look like?
[24:16] Something that was torn up. That’s right. So, yep.
[24:22] But everybody everybody said it the champion pedals and said, “No, those pedals those pedals you see there on the
[24:31] left, those are basically the pedals of the guy that won the freaking, you know, the title championship, you know, the title trophy the year before. So, that’s
[24:40] that. It’s just funny to see the difference. See, I need to see that. I see that. Yeah, it’s fun.
[24:46] I would love to see the beginnings of that fight.” Absolutely. I’ll get that over to you because I remember when Greg Matus came out for Harry’s memorial.

[24:57] He had said that he was picking a bike up. That’s right. Some guy. That’s right. Not knowing it was you. Yeah.
[25:05] And and then he also said he goes, “And make sure you bring a black Sharpie because he wanted you to sign it.” And I’m like, “Well, that’s me to sign this
[25:14] bike.” Yeah. And he wants you to sign it cuz you’re Harry’s sister. I thought, “Right on. That’s cool. I don’t like you. Yeah.
[25:20] So then when we got we saw him the next day, he goes, “It’s the wrong bike, so you’re not going to be signing anything.” I
[25:28] thought, “O I was kind of sad I didn’t get to sign it.” Yeah.
[25:32] But I didn’t know it was Harry’s Dirt Works cuz they never mentioned it.
[25:36] We It threw us all off because it was rebranded, right? That’s what threw us all off is
[25:45] when we were working that deal. Well, first off, we were told it was a completely different bike than what was, you know, delivered. But side, you know,
[25:52] that’s a side story. Um, yeah, we had no earthly idea that was a Dirt Works because if you look at there’s not a
[25:59] single Dirt Works logo or nothing on there. Wow.
[26:05] How did you figure out it was Dirt Works? Uh I somebody I posted some I think I posted like uh I got this you
[26:12] know like basically like I got this bike uh this Marzochi bike and people like no they never made a marzoi so I’m like I
[26:20] don’t know and someone’s like that’s a dirt works. Oh okay. Um so I think that’s kind of how that went if I could
[26:27] be wrong but if I remember correctly and then I recall you and I talking it was one of our first conversations.
[26:35] Yeah. You said that you I was telling you about Chaz having a dirt works. Yeah.
[26:40] And then you sent me that picture shortly thereafter and I went, “Wait, how in the world did you get that
[26:47] picture of my son’s bike? That was so cool.” And I found out you had it. Yeah.
[26:52] And then you gifted it to me and it was It made me cry. I had It did. It made me cry.
[26:57] Yeah. No, it’s It was a huge honor and I I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to do that. So, I I I’ve received
[27:05] many gifts in my life, and it’s it’s nice to be able to it was nice for me to be able to do something for someone else, especially you cuz you’ve been you’ve been you’re the best.
