Five General Rules for Riding a Pump Track

1. Start Slow and Build Momentum Gradually
Pump tracks are designed to be ridden by pumping, not pedaling.
Guides emphasize learning the rhythm of rollers and berms before trying to go fast.

2. Stay in the Ready/Attack Position
Stand on level pedals with bent knees, elbows, and hips so your body can move with the track’s contours.
This helps you stay balanced and absorb bumps smoothly.

3. Ride in One Direction and Yield Before Entering
Most pump tracks have a preferred direction.
Always check that the track is clear before dropping in—this is a key part of pump‑track etiquette.

4. Don’t Stop on the Track
If you need to rest, adjust gear, or wait for someone, move off the riding surface.
Stopping on rollers or berms is dangerous for you and others.

5. Respect Other Riders’ Flow
Let faster riders go first and avoid cutting into someone’s line.
Pump tracks are all about flow,  and maintaining spacing keeps everyone safe and having fun.
