The original E.T. Kuwahara BMX bike became one of the most iconic machines in BMX history when it appeared in the 1982 film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, ridden by Elliott during the unforgettable flying scene that carried BMX into mainstream culture.
Built by Kuwahara, a Japanese manufacturer already respected in early BMX, the bike featured a lightweight chromoly frame, 20-inch wheels, mag-style rims, and a distinctive red-and-white color scheme that made it instantly recognizable. While it was a functional race-style bike of its era, its role in the film transformed it into something far greater—an artifact that bridged Hollywood storytelling and BMX innovation.
For many riders, the E.T. Kuwahara was their first exposure to BMX, inspiring a generation to ride, build, and dream, and cementing its place as both a cultural symbol and a cornerstone of BMX history.
