Ferg, born Darold Durard Brown Ferguson Jr. in Harlem, New York, emerged as one of the most recognizable members of the A$AP Mob collective, bringing a loud, energetic style that reflected the culture of the city that raised him. Growing up in Harlem, Ferg was surrounded by New York’s street-riding communities, where bicycles, dirt bikes, wheelies, music, and fashion all existed within the same urban ecosystem. The freedom, confidence, and rebellious energy of Bike Life culture became a natural extension of the attitude that would later define his music and public identity.
Unlike many artists who simply referenced bicycles in their lyrics or videos, Ferg established a direct connection to BMX culture through a partnership with Redline Bicycles in 2019. The collaboration resulted in the limited-edition A$AP Ferg x Redline RL 275, a custom cruiser designed to blend classic BMX heritage with modern urban riding. The project represented a rare crossover between a major hip-hop artist and one of BMX’s most recognizable brands, introducing bicycle culture to audiences far beyond the traditional riding community.
Ferg’s connection to bikes extends beyond product collaborations. To celebrate the release of the Redline project, he rode through Harlem alongside professional BMX rider Nigel Sylvester and members of New York’s riding scene, highlighting the strong relationship between music, fashion, and Bike Life culture. Through public appearances, interviews, and community events, he has consistently embraced bicycles as both recreation and personal expression. His involvement helped shine a spotlight on the wheelie culture, ride-outs, and neighborhood bike crews that have become a defining part of New York street life. By bringing those communities into music videos, media appearances, and brand partnerships, Ferg helped expose a wider audience to a movement that had long thrived outside the mainstream. Today, Ferg remains one of the most visible examples of the ongoing connection between modern hip-hop and urban riding culture, helping bring the spirit of New York Bike Life to a global audience.
