Raymon van der Biezen emerged from Heesch, Netherlands, as one of the leading figures in the modern era of Dutch BMX racing. Beginning his BMX journey at a young age, he quickly progressed through the national ranks and earned a place on the Dutch National Team as a teenager. As BMX evolved into the Supercross era, van der Biezen developed into one of the sport’s most technically refined and explosive riders. Competing internationally for Redline Bicycles, he established himself among the world’s elite racers and maintained a position within the top ten of the UCI world rankings for six consecutive years. His consistency and speed helped strengthen the Netherlands’ reputation as one of the premier nations in international BMX competition.
Van der Biezen represented the Netherlands at both the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2012 London Olympic Games, becoming one of the country’s most recognizable BMX athletes during the sport’s early Olympic era. In Beijing, he narrowly missed advancing to the medal round and finished ninth overall against a highly competitive field. Four years later in London, he delivered one of the most memorable performances of his career by posting the fastest time in Olympic qualifying, finishing ahead of a field that included reigning world champions and Olympic medalists. Although he ultimately finished fourth in the Olympic final, his performance demonstrated his ability to compete with the very best riders in the world. Beyond the Olympics, van der Biezen captured European Championship titles in both 2010 and 2016, adding to an impressive international racing resumé that spanned more than a decade.
Following his retirement from professional racing in 2016, van der Biezen transitioned into coaching and athlete development. Drawing upon years of experience competing at the highest levels of BMX, he joined the Dutch National BMX program and began working with the next generation of elite riders at Papendal, the Netherlands’ national Olympic training center. His firsthand knowledge of Supercross racing, race preparation, and international competition made him a valuable asset to one of the world’s most successful BMX programs. His transition from athlete to coach allowed him to share valuable experience gained during BMX’s formative Olympic years with a new generation of competitors. Having raced during a period of rapid technological and competitive evolution, he brought a unique perspective to athlete development and race preparation. His continued involvement in the sport has helped strengthen the foundation of Dutch BMX as it remains one of the world’s most successful national programs.
As both an Olympian and coach, he has contributed to multiple generations of Dutch BMX success. His career reflects the continued evolution of the Netherlands from an emerging BMX nation into a global leader in modern BMX racing, and his influence remains visible both on and off the track today.
