Founded in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1999 by Alan Johnston, 3Ride BMX Shop became one of Canada’s longest-running BMX-focused retailers and an important part of Western Canadian BMX culture. Established as a dedicated BMX shop during a major growth period for freestyle and racing, the company helped provide Canadian riders with increased access to aftermarket BMX parts, complete bikes, and rider-focused product support.
3Ride gained recognition through both its retail storefront and large mail-order operation, helping riders across Canada obtain BMX products that were often difficult to access domestically during the early years of online BMX retail. The shop carried a wide range of freestyle and racing brands while supporting riders across street, park, dirt, and BMX racing disciplines.
Beyond retail, 3Ride contributed to Canadian BMX culture through rider sponsorship, event support, team projects, and involvement in BMX media and competitions throughout British Columbia and Alberta. The company became closely associated with grassroots rider development and Western Canadian BMX community growth during the 2000s and 2010s.
Although the physical retail locations eventually closed, 3Ride remains remembered as one of Canada’s most influential BMX shops, helping support multiple generations of Canadian riders through both retail access and community involvement.
The company later expanded operations into Calgary, Alberta.
3Ride became known for its early Canadian BMX mail-order and online retail operations.
