Canonical page transcription

Launched in Toronto in 2002 by Jay Miron and Ten Pack Distribution, the Metro Jam series became one of the most influential freestyle BMX contest series to emerge from Canada during the 2000s. Created with a rider-focused approach, the event emphasized creativity, progression, and community atmosphere over traditional contest structure, helping distinguish it from many conventional BMX competitions of the era.

Metro Jam became known for its jam-style format, progressive course setups, and strong international rider attendance. Originally connected to the Toronto International Bike Show, the series later expanded to additional locations including Vancouver, Singapore, and Huntington Beach, attracting many of freestyle BMX’s leading riders during the mid-2000s.

The series also played an important role in increasing exposure for Canadian BMX riders, helping provide international visibility for riders including Dave Osato, John Heaton, and Drew Bezanson during important stages of their careers. Through its combination of contest riding, media coverage, and rider participation, Metro Jam helped strengthen Canada’s influence within modern freestyle BMX culture.

Although the series concluded in the late 2000s, Metro Jam remains remembered as one of the defining rider-driven BMX events of its era, influencing later freestyle contest formats and progression-focused BMX events worldwide.
