Lititz BMX Book Club Series - Day One: Remembering why you came here in the first place
Author: Mike Miller

Chapter 2: Another Setback

Ok BMX Book Club Members, I had to stop after the first page and email the author that I had heard this story before. He seemed to be shocked but I told him I heard it on a podcast. I think it was on the Dirty Knobs Podcast but I am not sure. I can tell you, it was really fun to put the two stories together!

So, the chapter…

I already mentioned that I had to email the author from the beginning of this chapter. Overall, it was a fun read!

The chapter starts with the story of how the author ended up breaking his legs then having Mike Miranda push his face into the dirt and then punched him in the face and shook him while screaming “I told you not to look at it.” The remaining bits of the story involve a Grand Torino, a fib to his Mom, a couple of sodas, the ER, and a great story of what came after between two friends.

Quotes that I took away with value and thought included:

   - “when you feel like you are on top of the world, and you feel invincible, that is when life will hit you with some reality.” Yep… Agreed

   - “I got a “real job” where I could make some real money. A mistake I regret to this day.”

   - “Once I became a Pro, I assumed the only way to have fun in this sport anymore was to make money doing it, and I was doomed.” What an interesting take, I hadn’t thought of that from that angle before.

   - “just as people with careers in business play on softball teams or play golf with their buddies, I wish I would have continued riding at some level instead of hanging it up. It was such a big part of my life.” He is not alone…

  - “sometimes, it is in these times that God will show you who you should surround yourself with. Certainly, in my case, God showed me that I had a great friend in Mike [Miranda]”

We also get to learn a little about Mike Miranda’s new roomate - Tommy Brackens

Join in on the conversation. If you don’t yet have it, it is available for Kindle, paperback, and hardcover.
