Lititz BMX Book Club Series - Day One: Remembering why you came here in the first place
Author: Mike Miller
Chapter 5: Happiness

“Why am I not happy? I seem to have lost the ability to taste the fruit of happiness.”

I knew it was coming… Harry Leary being brought into the conversation - I didn’t expect that when this whole thing started but I was “warned” for lack of a better word. It is crazy to think of him working a “regular” job - even though I knew. I guess this chapter frames things differently than I have looked at BMX Legend Harry Leary.

But…
That isn’t really what the chapter is about. It is supported but not necessary. I say this because, what is necessary is learning about Katie and how hard work and mentorship can lead to life changing opportunities.

The author called this “the beginning of the next “Mauricio Story.” Really, the author was right, she earned her own story which is why he wrote it I am sure. Was Katie even her real name? Read her story to find out, just know that she needs to know the “WHY”.

A few notable quotes that I liked include:
“Harry would run Manufacturing, and Katie would run shipping. The “A” team was coming together.”
“What the heck happened? It was so good and now it seems to be a chore to get up and go to work.” - Who can relate?
“I went home trying to figure out what it would take to make me happy.”

So, this being a BMX inspired book and Harry Leary is mentioned in the chapter, let's take a look at the role we see him in.

Harry Leary: Manufacturing Leader
     - “Harry immediately started to challenge the first shift guys and their outputs.”
     - “Harry would gather his team at the beginning of the shift and tell them that they had to beat 1000 pieces tonight.”...”If the first shift made 1000, then second shift made 1050. Always a few more.”
“This guy was raised in a world of fierce competition, and everything was a race to him.”...”It was as if he couldn’t settle for second.”
     - “He knew that it takes hard work to win, and quite frankly, he didn’t like not winning.”
There is more…
