67. Linda Leary Taylor explains that “You don’t touch Harry Leary’s bike.” - “You would lose a hand.”
He also never let them out of his sight. Harry took his bike wherever he went. He was “a little paranoid” - Linda thinks it was the CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy). He was afraid people were breaking into his apartment and stealing stuff.
Linda further explains that a lot of paranoia came with the CTE.
Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is a neurodegenerative disease linked to repeated head injuries, often seen in athletes and military personnel. It is characterized by the degeneration of nerve cells in the brain, leading to symptoms that can include memory loss, mood disorders, and cognitive decline. The condition is diagnosed primarily through autopsy, as there is no specific treatment or cure available. Risk factors include contact sports, military service, and domestic violence. Symptoms typically develop years after the onset of repetitive head trauma, and understanding the relationship between head injuries and CTE is ongoing research.
We invite you to listen to our conversation about BMX legend Harry Leary, with his sister Linda Leary Taylor and Kyle A. Huffman while walking over the London Bridge in Lake Havasu City, AZ.
