This is kind of the rough draft of my speech.

Good evening, Council Members. My name is Kyle A. Huffman, and I live at XXXXXX in Lititz. I have been a proud resident of Lititz for over 10 years. I am also a twice deployed honorably discharged Veteran, and a 100% disabled Veteran. Before I retired, I was also the founder of the Veterans Employee Resource Group at Fulton Bank - when I worked for them as an Instructional Designer. I also happen to be a lifelong BMX enthusiast and history buff. But, mostly, this is because I have a two-year-old daughter that I hope to see thrive in this community - her future influences this push greatly.

With me tonight is Mark Stancliff, a former national BMX rider. We are here together to propose something that we believe will bring lasting value to our community. That is, the creation of a multi‑sport pump track in Lititz.

So, what is a pump track? 

A pump track is a looping circuit of rollers and banked turns designed for bikes, skateboards, scooters, roller skates — really, anything with wheels. It is low‑impact, safe, and accessible for all ages and skill levels.

A primary factor here is Youth Engagement: It gives kids and teens a healthy, outdoor alternative to screens, while teaching balance, coordination, and perseverance.

A wonderful benefit is Family Recreation: Parents and children can ride together, making it a true family destination.

Pump tracks are absolutely inclusive: Pump tracks are designed for beginners and experts alike, and they are ADA‑friendly, meaning riders with adaptive equipment can participate.

It will be a huge source of Community Pride: Lititz is already known for its parks and vibrant culture. It is also fondly remembered for the old Lititz BMX Track.

Does the thought of it bring a smile to your face? <look around>

For those of you nodding, it doesn’t have to be over - you can share our vision and ride again. A pump track would add another jewel to our recreational offerings, development of lifelong skills and memories, attract visitors and residents who support local businesses.

Pump tracks are surprisingly affordable compared to other recreational facilities:
   - A professionally built asphalt pump track can range from $150,000 to $250,000, depending on size.
   - Maintenance costs are minimal compared to ball fields or pools.
   - Funding can come from a mix of grants, sponsorships, fundraising, and community partnerships. Organizations like USA BMX Foundation and local businesses often support projects like this.

We are not asking the Borough to shoulder the entire burden. We are committed to working with you to identify funding sources and rally community support.”

We have a Call-to-Action: We ask the Council tonight to consider forming a working group or feasibility study to explore the best location, design, and funding options for a Lititz pump track.

This is not just about BMX. It’s about creating a safe, inclusive, and exciting space for all wheel‑based sports. It’s about giving our youth a place to grow, our families a place to connect, and our town another reason to “ride and shine.”

As a veteran, I know the importance of support, community, and resilience. 

As athletes, we know the power of sports to inspire and unite. 
Together, we believe a pump track can embody both.
