They agree:
It is amazing what some bikes cost now.
That money can be spent within our
   community bike shops.

Fiction but could be true if Lititz built a pump track…

On prom night, the gym glowed with rented lights and borrowed confidence. Dresses rustled, ties tightened, photos snapped. Across town, a different kind of quiet settled in.

She sat on the edge of her bed, race bag half-packed, helmet resting on the desk like a promise. Worlds were next week. Her first UCI World Championships. Skipping prom wasn’t a sacrifice to her—it was a choice, deliberate and steady.

Mental toughness hadn’t appeared overnight. It had been built years ago in Lititz, long before podiums and passports. It started on the Lititz Pump Track, when she was small enough that the rollers looked like mountains. She learned early that fear doesn’t disappear; you ride through it. That momentum matters more than brute strength. That falling wasn’t failure—it was information.

After school, she’d pedal to the track, chasing daylight. Some days she nailed every lap, floating smooth and fast. Other days she fought the bike, frustrated and tired. The pump track never cared. It demanded patience, rhythm, and honesty. It taught her how to reset her mind before the next lap.

Local BMX races came next—dusty starts, borrowed gates, parents lining the fences. She learned to focus when eight riders crowded her space, to breathe when her heart hammered. State races followed, then nationals, each step bigger, louder, faster. Each time, doubt showed up. Each time, she answered it the same way: head down, eyes forward, one straight at a time.

Now the world stage waited. Different languages. Different flags. The same start gate.

Prom photos would fade into yearbooks and phones. This moment wouldn’t. As she zipped her bag closed, she felt calm. Not excited. Not scared. Ready.

Lititz had taught her that dreams don’t start under spotlights. They start on quiet mornings, on worn asphalt, on a pump track where you learn how to push without pedaling—and how to keep going when it would be easier to stop.

Next week, the world would meet her. She’d already done the hard part.
