What happens when BMX history arrives in a box from Canada?
In this special episode filmed at Coleman Bike Park in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Brandon Hetrick joins Lititz BMX for the unboxing of a rare piece of BMX artwork connected to one of the most recognizable characters in BMX history: Radical Rick.
The artwork is attributed to Damian Fulton, the legendary artist behind Radical Rick and the iconic illustrations featured in BMX Plus! magazine. According to the information provided with the piece, this artwork may represent one of the earliest known associations between Radical Rick and BMX Plus!, dating back to around 1980 - the same year the character first appeared in the magazine.
The piece was sourced through Canada, originated from Southern California, and carries an incredible backstory that we're still actively researching. While additional verification is planned through future conversations with Damian Fulton himself, the excitement surrounding this potential discovery made it impossible to keep hidden any longer.
For Brandon, the moment was more than just opening a package - it was a reminder of how deeply art, magazines, riders, and storytelling helped shape BMX culture for an entire generation. He is starting to realize that he is also a part of the universal biking and BMX story.
