Harry Leary's DIRTWERX BMX company was more than another sponsor or bike brand. For Harry, it was his dream. It was an opportunity to build something that carried his own name and reflected the way he believed BMX should be.
In this Fireside BMX Chat conversation, Harry's sister, Linda Leary Taylor, sits down with Kyle A. Huffman to remember that chapter of Harry's life. Together, they revisit the excitement of DIRTWERX, the family's involvement, the challenges that followed, and why those years still mean so much today.
As the conversation unfolds, an unexpected story emerges. One of Harry's original DIRTWERX bicycles traveled from Harry to Linda's son, Chaz, eventually found its way back into Linda's hands, and today is being preserved in memory in the Lititz BMX Archive and physically by Linda. Kyle also shares the discovery of an original NOS DIRTWERX frame, while Linda talks about her hope of riding Harry's original bike during Dirty Fest 4 in his memory.
For me, that's what this project is really about.
Every bike, every photograph, every artifact, and every conversation helps preserve a piece of BMX history that could easily disappear. Sometimes preserving history isn't just about collecting things - it's about reconnecting families, telling stories honestly, and making sure future generations understand why they mattered in the first place.
This isn't just the story of a bicycle.
It's the story of a brother, a sister, a family, and a dream that still has something to teach us.

What began as a private collection has grown into an expanding digital archive featuring hundreds of artifacts, rider profiles, interviews, educational resources, and historical research spanning BMX’s earliest days through today.
