On Saturday mornings, he parked his wheelchair at the fence line of the Revolution track in York, PA, close enough to feel the rumble of tires through the ground. The gate would drop with a sharp crack, and eight BMX riders would explode forward, bodies low, legs pumping, bikes snapping over the first jump like they’d been shot from the earth itself.

He watched everything—the way they leaned into berms, the quiet confidence before a race, the way fear seemed optional to them. He memorized lines he would never ride. In his chest lived a familiar ache: awe tangled with longing. He knew the truth, even as a kid. He wasn’t getting out of the chair. The doctors were clear. The world, less kind, reminded him daily.

Still, he came back every weekend. Dreams don’t always listen to facts.

Years passed. Then one night, his phone lit up with a message that didn’t feel real: Lititz approves community pump track. He reread it until the words settled. When Brandon Hetrick and his team arrived, trucks and machines followed, reshaping empty ground into flowing asphalt. Rollers rose. Berms curved. The town gathered, curious at first, then proud.
